This is my first unofficial post!

By unofficial I mean it’s my turn for the “No Spin Zone”!

How can anyone say they we’re not putting our own perspective (“SPIN”) on issues that are dear to us?

How can we distance ourselves from what we feel are important? Anyway, that’s a discussion for another day.

Especially since my wife cut off my cable and I can’t watch anymore. Too bad, so sad! All he and his cohorts on that channel do is make me hate the media.

Anyway, back to no spin!

As a rule, I draft, rewrite, proof, spell check, but tonight is none of that.  So forgive the grammar, the typos, and the nonsense of it all.

Yea baby!! The Cheater New England Patriots have lost two in a row!!!

Donald Trump is a Hater!! Professing Racism and Bigotry! In my opinion.

The real question is; why are so many of us drawn to that?

Have we come to cheating, racism, and bigotry as the American way? Before we exclude anyone, remember what made us GREAT. Not walls!

Wake up this isn’t yesterday! We have to learn how to change! Tomorrow isn’t TODAY!

The interesting thing the military and sports teach you, is when your survival depends on the person next to, race, creed and color don’t matter. Can you do the job does!

OOOOH! That felt good!

The beauty of being the editor of a blog is you can, let it out, occasionally!

The original inspiration for this post is I just spent the afternoon at a very good friend of my house called Doc. Yes, I call him Doc, because he’s a Doctor.

Just because I’m a dummy, doesn’t mean I don’t have something to offer.

Because my other Bud, we’ll call him Tommie is a Steelers fan and they had the late game, today. (Steelers vs Colts).

We hadn’t seen each other in a while and alcohol was involved. We’re all past 50, so judge somebody else.  That might also explain this post!!!

So as the evening degraded into pure male testosterone speak, (I invited the wife, but she being an intelligent woman like the other wives, chose not to come.)

Doc is a widower, anyway Doc and Tommie start talking about Kim Kardashian. All I said was look what the mamma did to Bruce, I’d say away from them, shoot look at Lamar.

As they continue rip me a new one, I say I just don’t want my woman parading on the NET. Doc how is 70 years old, begins to educate me on the folly of my youth.

I loved it “the folly of my youth.” I loved it, I’ll be 60 next year. For the record Tommie is a kid of 55. So then I say OK, I’ll give you one of the best bodies money can buy!

So, Tommie begins to explain in his usual unique way, if she came in here right, we’d fight each other over her. I said I wouldn’t, because, Doc, would kick all our asses.

As we enjoyed the moment, I just mentioned how it would bother me, but obviously it doesn’t her husband. Then we all mused over the that he’s a rocket scientist.

Then that started us on our discussion on the Millennial’s. Then I remembered maybe I was a Millennial in my time.

I can remember my mother saying, boy what are listening to, and heck no you’re not wearing that in my house!

So, when it was all said and done, we’re thankful, we had the opportunity to get together and talk some manure and the Steelers won.

So as the alcohol triumphs I’m going to call it a night.

Be thankful for what you have. There is always going to be better and worse, but any day you can compete is a good day!

The Meanings We Create

Today’s topic explores the meanings we create.  Meanings could also be called; underlying assumptions, norms, or beliefs.

In fact, every incidence of behavior has a root in some assumption we hold to be true.

Creating meaning can apply to both healthy and unhealthily thinking.  Studies have shown that using less negative terms in stressful situations improves overall morale.

Conversely, research shown that people are able to identify constructive meanings tends to improve.

The use of certain words can cause feelings of being judged, or criticized and can trigger defensiveness.

Creating Meaning conveys the active of people’s interpretation and it’s an everyday term.

Fulfillment, happiness, sense. To truly be fulfilled in life, we need to experience pleasure, we should do things that we think it is useful, and we should have in our lives meaning.

Many of as we experience a radical change in our lives, divorce, children leaving home, retirement, we begin to ask is there more in life.

So it could be a decisive feeling when we actually live for years with and through others. When we finally get time for ourselves, we do not know what to do with it.

We are so used to spending every second on what’s next, “to do” list,  who thinks what, even if you think you have time, do not know what you want to do with it.

Over the years, we somehow lose the sense of who we are, what we most relate to and what we wanted to be.

Take Care of Your Body With Rest And Sleep

All the parts of the human body work together, although each one has its especial part to do.

The stomach must have a time to rest between meals.

The other parts of the body require rest, too. This they usually get while we are asleep. We must not be neglectful and fail to give them enough rest, or they will soon get worn out and give us trouble.

Sometimes, when people are not well or are all tired out, they find they cannot sleep well at night. There are a number of little things that can be done to induce sleep.

A warm bath before retiring, followed by a gentle massage, especially along the spine, often will, by relaxing the nerves and muscles, produce very good results.

A hot foot bath, which draws the blood away from the brain, frequently will be found beneficial. A glass of hot milk or cocoa, taken just before retiring, often will have the same effect.

If the sleeplessness is a result of indigestion, a plain diet will relieve. Sleeping upon a hard bed without any pillow sometimes produces the desired effect.

Always have plenty of fresh air in the room. Keep the mind free from the cares of the day.   If they will intrude, crowd them out by repeating something else some soothing sentence or bit of poetry.

One good plan is to close the left nostril by pressing on it with the finger, then take four deep breaths through the right nostril. Then close the right nostril and take four deep breaths through the left one.

Repeat this about four times. Then breathe slowly through both nostrils, but count your breaths. You seldom will count very many.

Never take any sleeping powders or tablets except upon the advice of a physician, for they usually contain drugs that will injure the heart.

So, You Gave Up on Finding Your Passion!

If you’re like me, feeling like you are already too old, because we’re on the downhill side of some, health, weight, age, insurance chart or table, so you’ve given up pursuing the path on finding your passion,

STOP that thought! We’re neither too old nor too young to do what we want to do, or to go where we really want to go.

If you surrender to defeat, you will never know what could have happened, if only you had allowed yourself to take risks in order to attain what you heart really wants for you.

As we go through life, there are many phases that we have to conquer before we can proclaim success over various paths.

When we were young, we thought we had to succeed no matter what. This was the ideal mindset. Even if we really didn’t know what success was, but we knew we had to have it.

Which may have been the reason why we haven’t really focused on realizing what our real passion is.

But life gets more complicated as we age, a reason why we tend to forget what we really wanted to achieve in the first place.

Going down the path of success, some of us chose to set aside our inner beliefs and give in to the opportunities that were being presented to us at the moment.

We grabbed on to these opportunities be it a scholarship, a job, a relationship? Thinking heck, it can’t be as hard as they say look at this opportunity?

Lesson learned, if it’s too good to be true, it’s too good to be true. In my opinion.

Next lesson learned, nothing replaces hard work! In my opinion.

Hardest lessons learned, thinking life will be complete after we’ve earned good money, gotten married, have a home and family, and saved up a lot.

Then we’ll pursue our passion and go back to what it is we really want to do. Problem; all that takes a lot of you.

A lot of us never get a chance to look back, feel comfortable and settled in our environment.

Life being as volatile as it is, we fear that, if we let go to pursue something where success is unknown, we will lose it all.

So, we settle into comfortable. in our situation, even though we feel we’re trapped.

Once we’re too comfortable, we’re likely be afraid to come out of it.

Even if we’re doing something that we don’t really like and we feel like life is dragging us down.

We will allow ourselves to be a prisoner of our comfort.

So, we have to take a risk before we get stuck into such state. We need to go back to the point when we promised ourselves that you will get back your passion.

That promise is important because we owe it to ourselves to make this happen.

Finding your passion is not about your age. It’s about setting your heart and mind to it to be able to pursue the path. You can’t find your passion if you don’t walk the path.

Save Your Money By Organizing your Finances

If you’re like me you’ve may have never organized a plan on how to best save your money. You carefully plan how to spend your money.

Conserve energy, shopping sales, cutting corners, and clipping coupons.

These are all positive steps in the right direction, but with some careful planning and organized thought, we can make our dollar stretch even further.

First of all, pay yourself first. Bill yourself if you have to as a way to keep track. You can even have a portion of your check directly deposited into your savings account so you’ll never even miss it.

Put part of it into savings for shorter term goals and some into a retirement plan. Compare interest rates at different financial institutions to get the most bang for your saved buck.

The key to this working is Creating a BUDGET and STICKING to it. Easier Said than done. In my opinion this is the biggest hurdle.

Make it a realistic budget. If you’ve never done this before it will take some time. Pay close attention to where your money is going. Develop a spreadsheet or other method so you can visibly track where your money is going each month.

It’s easy to remember the big bills like the mortgage or the car payment, but it’s easy to lose track of the incidental spending you do.

You’d probably be surprised how much you spend each month on entertainment, eating out, and spending money for the kids. Ouch! especially for the ones in college! OMG!!

This will help you find ways of saving a few dollars here and there, which can quickly add up to a significant savings each month. Once you’ve paid close attention to where your money is going, it will be easy to find where you need to make adjustments adjust your budget accordingly.

With some commitment and a few lifestyle adjustments, it’s really quite simple to live within the parameters of a well-planned budget.

Look for fun, inexpensive ways to entertain your family. Try some old fashion things like going on a picnic or going to the beach.

Outdoor activities not only promote family togetherness but the fresh air and exercise will benefit everyone.

This is hardly a new or comprehensive discussion on this topic, there are books, YouTube Videos, financial advisers, even your Uncle Guido, who probably have better advice on this topic than I do.

As I face the HOPEFUL reality of Retirement and the joy of budgetary life (well I already have the JOY). I say hopefully, because when you look at the spreadsheet and start projecting scenarios, it gets REAL.

Take your money seriously and it will seriously take care of you!

Searching For Our Passion

I believe the meaning of success depends on the person who is asked to define it.

For some of us, this can be defined in finding our passion. And once that is achieved, we already feel successful with whatever ventures they have decided to take.

But, alas this is not as easy as we would hope.

When we were young, we thought that anything was possible, even changing the world. As we dared to try new things, we failed at some and achieved at others.

Now we’re older and some of us you find ourselves stuck at a point where we feel like we have lost our way and given up on our journey.

We have to clear ourselves of all the negativity that clouds our minds and emotions. Get started back on our path.

However hard the road ahead seems to be, in order for us to get nearer to our passion, we must always be ready to take the necessary steps towards it.

Here are some things that we can do to hopefully help us get to where we eventually want to be.

Engage yourself in a self-assessment process.
• You have to think about things.
• What have you gone through to reach this point in your life?
• Where are you right now?
• What else do you want to have happen?
• How do you perceive yourself in one, three, five years from now?
• If it’s not possible to happen that soon, calculate how long it will take and the steps to get there.

After you clearly see the person that you want to be.
You must look into the steps that you are taking to make sure that it will happen.
You must review the steps that you are taking to make sure that you will become that person.

You will feel it inside of you if you want to accomplish something so bad that you are willing to do anything to get there.
This is when you feel like you have no more time to waste on other things that won’t help you to become who you eventually want to be.
One sign that you are at this point in your life is when you start reading articles and topics that can help you be more aware about your goals and ways to get there or coming to

Your goals must be very clear to you.

Is that WHAT YOU REALLY want to achieve?
You have to know what you really want to have happen.
Then you have to take the steps to get there.

Review this DAILY, when you wake up in the morning and before bed at night.

VISUALIZE, these thoughts. Your thoughts, words, and deeds should match exactly how you feel.

You must not be too hard on yourself.
You should keep your goals simple, measurable and attainable.
And you must set each step that you will take to accomplish to achieve your goals.

This way, you will not easily give up when you are presented with unexpected challenges.

Once you know the steps you have to to take to complete your journey, you have to make up your mind to take these necessary steps.

YOU have to take action to accomplish them.

This is something that you have to do in order to be at a happier and more fulfilled state.

As you begin your journey and are taking the steps in finding your passion, you must cherish your actions.

You should also take good care of whatever you will eventually achieve to make sure that your hard work is rightly rewarded by paying it forward.

Rediscovering Our Spirituality

As we experience life with our losses and life changes that take place with advancing years, some of us begin to gravitate towards or for some of is back to religion, although the traditional church may not always be as accommodating as we hoped.

If you’re like me born in the church, graduated from catholic elementary school, OK an altar boy, to through some roundabout way to graduate from a Lutheran college, it can be more of a rediscovery.

Some of us may be more influenced by the thinking of various philosophers and thinkers that deal with the different practices of spirituality to find meaning in life.

With advancing age, there are life changes as well as life losses both mental and physical, that require us having hope in order to survive.

Oddly, that’s when we begin to realize what spirituality did and can do for us who believe.

For those of us who believe; Spirituality can be therapeutic. Spirituality can take the form of therapeutic interventions found in prayers, meditation and expressions of art, attending religious services and reading the bible.

All of which can lead to spiritual awareness and healing as well as renewal. With better understanding of spirituality through various resources, there may come about a more peaceful aging process.

With those of us that face the reality of our age, we learn we can’t do want we once did. I’m never playing a game of hoops again.

I knew I had to give up football, than basketball than softball. Now I would be happy to just walk pain-free.

But the biggest non-physical, pain of all is that I’m not where I thought I should be by now.

Aging also raises questions about the true meaning and value of day-to-day life. Questions of what’s really important.

This is when our spirituality can expand and help us share our feelings with others. It hopefully allows us some space in which to grow, even in times of difficulty.

But let Me state; Spirituality is unique to each of us!

Just as our bodies’ age differently, spirituality is different for each of us too.

Some of us have been attending the same church or synagogue our entire lives and have their spiritual beliefs well reconciled.

Some of us have been searching for spirituality our entire lives, while others of us only begin in later life in order to help us deal with calamity, aging, or a death. Then we begin to search for the answers we need.

Many of us argue over what spirituality is; I like the thought of real spirituality actually being aware we are spirit.

Racism In The Workplace

Racism is discrimination and prejudice towards people predicated on their contest or ethnicity.

Pre-Diabetes What the heck is that?

So, I go for my annual physical and low and behold I get slapped with a Pre-Diabetes diagnosis.

Pre-Diabetes? WTF!

How could this happen to me?

Now I have to do the research and learn how to live with this and how to keep from getting full blown Diabetes!

Pre-diabetes is a medical condition, in which blood sugar level is higher than normal but not yet high enough to be classified as type-2 diabetes.

Without intervention, it is likely to become type-2 diabetes in 10 years or less.

Pre-diabetes can be an opportunity for one to improve one’s health.

However, its progression to type-2 diabetes isn’t inevitable if effective intervention is instituted.

According to American Diabetes Association, the following are considered to be its risk factors, if one:
• Is above 45 years.
• Has BMI (body mass index) above 25.
• Is inactive.
• Has a family history of type-2 diabetes.
• Is African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, Asian-American or a Pacific Islander.
• Is Asian as Asian counties contribute largely to the prevalence of pre-diabetes.
• Has a history of gestational diabetes or have given birth to a baby, who weighed more than 9 pounds (4.1 kilograms).
• Has a history of polycystic ovary syndrome.
• Has high blood pressure.
• Has an abnormal cholesterol level, including high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels below 35 mg/dL or a triglyceride level above 250 mg/dL.
Diagnosis of pre-diabetes –
The following tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis of pre-diabetes:
Fasting blood glucose test –
• A blood sample will be taken after fasting for at least eight hours or overnight and blood sugar level is tested.
• A blood sugar level from 100 to 125 mg/dL is considered pre-diabetes. This is sometimes referred to as impaired fasting glucose (IFG).

Oral glucose tolerance test –
• A blood sample will be taken after fasting for at least eight hours or overnight. Then one will drink a sugary solution, and blood sugar level will be measured again after two hours.
• A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL is normal. A blood sugar level from 140 to 199 mg/dL is considered pre-diabetes. This is sometimes referred to as impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) test –
• This blood test indicates average blood sugar level for the past two to three months. It measures the percentage of blood sugar attached to hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells.
• A normal HbA1C should be below 5.7 percent. The HbA1C level between 5.7 and 6.4 percent is considered pre-diabetes.
• Certain conditions such as pregnancy or an uncommon form of hemoglobin (known as a hemoglobin variant) can make the HbA1C test inaccurate.

Though the exact cause of pre-diabetes is unknown, its contributors are as follows:
• Family history of type-2 diabetes
• Genetics – some genes related to insulin resistance have been discovered by the researchers.
• Excess fat especially abdominal fat
• Physical inactivity

Ways to keep it from becoming type-2 diabetes
Lose weight – Losing just 7% of body weight (that’s 10.5 pounds for a 150 pound person) helps people reduce diabetes risk by 58%.
Do more exercise – Exercise regularly by aiming for at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 days a week and weight training twice a week.
Change diet – By being sure you’re getting all the nutrients you need and sticking to small portion sizes and eating regularly scheduled meals, you can avoid high blood sugar.
Reduce stress – A stressed system pumps out hormones that increase blood sugar. Strive for calm by meditation or ways that work best for you.
Have regular sleeps daily – Deprivation of sleep derails the metabolism. People who clocked less than 6 hours a weeknight for 6 years are more than four times likelier to see their blood sugar climb into pre-diabetes territory.
• Those who got 4-5 hours of sleep for just four days become more insulin resistant, setting up the stage for high blood sugar.
Have periodic blood tests – One should have one’s blood tested periodically for blood sugar and HbA1C on a regular basis so that one can know when to take stringent measures for its control.

The bottom line is that pre-diabetes is most likely to progress to a full-blown type-2 diabetes, if adequate preventive measure is not taken.

Since type-2 diabetes has already reached epidemic proportions all over the world, pre-diabetes, if not checked in time, will further deteriorate the worsening global situation of prevalence of type-2 diabetes.
